Abstract
La producción científica-literaria sobre la región de la Araucanía comúnmente trata sobre lo mapuche, la propiedad de la tierra, las forestales, los colonos y, en menor medida, sobre la reforma agraria. La entrevista2 que presentamos en este trabajo se aproxima a un tema distinto, menos abordado: la experiencia subalterna de aquellos chilenos pobres que, oleada tras oleada, llegaron "en masa” a poblar dicha región ya desde antes de la Guerra de Ocupación (1862-1883), la misma que terminaría por anexar el Gullumapu al territorio nacional.
